If you are looking for a cloak pattern, then you have come to the right place. Have a look…
Cloaks have made a comeback lately, and they are seen all across the runway. Cloaks are not just reserved for supermodels. With the right design and cut, you can make a style statement with them. So what exactly is a cloak? A cloak is a kind of jacket which is unstructured and is made of one single piece of fabric. It is used in place of trench coats and long jackets, and is very much in vogue nowadays. There are many designs and styles that you can purchase from any high-end store or boutique. If you are envisioning wearing a Harry Potter type cloak, then you couldn’t be more wrong. Cloak designs are much evolved, very stylish and chic. If you want to design your own cloak, then with a cloak pattern, it is very much possible. The task is quite simple, provided you have some good pattern to choose from.
Different Cloak Patterns and Styles
The kind of pattern you choose will depend upon where you are going to use it. If you want a cloak for a Halloween party, then the best thing would be to opt for a simple semicircular cape. A semicircular full length cape pattern is very easy to make, and a fabric choice of black cotton or slate gray silk will give the best results. A cape for Halloween looks great with a hood, to give it an added spooky factor. If you are using the cape for regular wear, then the hood can be omitted.
To make the circular cape, you will need four yards of the fabric of your choice. The fabric should be at least 60 inches wide. First, fold the material in half, and then fold it again to form a smaller square. Take a chalk and mark it to form an arc from one corner of the square to the other. Mark a smaller arc at the opposite corner, and then cut along the marked line. This will make the neck opening of the cloak. Now, cut along the larger arc in the same manner. Hem the edges of the cloak. If you want a more professional look, you can get a lining material in another color―say red―and then sew it along the underside of the cloak.
If you need a cloak for evening wear, then you cannot go wrong with a light wool or tweed cape. A thigh-length or knee-length wool cape is one of the biggest fashion trends for winter. These capes are among the most glamorous of all winter clothing, as they conceal your body and arms in a very dramatic way. Cashmere cloaks are also available in many designer and high-end stores, which are of course quite expensive. If you want a sample pattern to design according to your body measurements, then give your choice of pattern to a good seamstress. A light woolen coat is just like a jacket, without fastenings where your arms are covered by the fabric, and there are small slits for your hands. The advantage of getting a custom-made cloak, is that you can get a very good fit, and your design will be unique. A rectangular cloak with a bubble hem, as made famous by fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent, will look very good for an evening out.
Other styles of cloaks, like a rectangular or semicircular cloak with a bright inner lining, cloaks with faux fur trimmings, and embroidered cloaks in jewel tones, are all very good patterns.
